If you don't find the answer to your question here, please call 855.5.Dobson.
Absolutely. The process of moving your existing number from one service provider to Dobson Fiber is known as “porting.”
To begin the porting process, make sure you have the following information handy:
1. Your current carrier’s account number and transfer PIN
2. The name of your current provider.
3. The billing ZIP code on your account.
4. Your existing phone number that you with to transfer (or port) to Dobson Mobile.
5. Confirmation that your current phone is unlocked and able to switch to Dobson Mobile. Click HERE for more information and instructions.
Autopay is required via credit or debit card and your first month’s bill is due at purchase. You will be billed monthly on the anniversary of your activation.
If you’re switching from another mobile carrier to Dobson Mobile and you’d like to keep your existing number, we can assist you with what’s called the porting process. In rare cases, your phone from your current carrier may be locked, meaning it can only be used on that network. A Dobson sales or support representative can assist you at any time but please refer to the information below regarding locked phones before attempting to port your existing number:
Why phones may be locked:
Some devices purchased on payment plans with current carrier may not be unlocked until they are paid in full.
Some carriers require minimum time policies as paying customer until they automatically unlock your phone (Verizon and AT&T are 60 days).
Some carriers may require your account to be in good standing.
Some carriers have more stringent policies for prepaid account devices versus post-paid plan.
Very few carriers will only allow limited devices be unlocked from their network (T-Mobile is limited to 2 per year).
To confirm that your phone is unlocked and able to port your existing number to Dobson Mobile before line activation, use one of the following methods:
iPhone
Open Settings → General → About.
Scroll to Carrier Lock.
It will display either:
No SIM restrictions = Unlocked.
SIM Locked (or similar wording) = Carrier locked.
Android
The exact menus vary by manufacturer, but try:
Settings → Connections → SIM Manager
Settings → About phone → Status
Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile network
If you are unable to determine if your device is unlocked on the device, you may call your current carrier’s support to confirm before attempting to activate your line. Dial 611 on your mobile phone or call the number listed on your invoice or carrier website.
