When Dobson Fiber launched its high-speed internet service in Spiro, Oklahoma, Mayor Doug Harper was among the first in town to get connected. We caught up with Mayor Harper to hear about his experience and what this new era of connectivity means for Spiro’s residents and businesses.
Life Before Dobson Fiber: “Slow to Nonexistent Internet”
For Mayor Harper, reliable internet was a long-standing challenge.
“I had slow to nonexistent internet with my prior carrier,” he recalls. “I’ve had this problem for many years, with continuous calls for help. They informed me that I was getting all they could provide. If we wanted to stream TV or a movie, we had to turn off all devices in the home and hope—just hope—that we could get enough signal to watch an entire show!”
A Seamless Installation and a Human Touch
The transition to Dobson Fiber was a breath of fresh air.
“First, the installation was fast and friendly,” Mayor Harper says. “The installers were helpful and talked to me like a human—not over my head with jargon or acting like I knew nothing about what I wanted or needed!”
Fiber Internet’s Impact on Spiro
Mayor Harper sees Dobson Fiber as a game-changer for his community.
“This opens up the whole world,” he explains. “Whether it’s someone who wants steady internet for shopping or gaming, or someone who wants to work from home and was unable to up to this point because of the limitations we had in Spiro, this changes everything.”
Serving the Community with Confidence
Reliable, fast internet isn’t just a personal benefit for Mayor Harper—it’s a boost for his work as mayor.
“I have had so many happy phone calls about the use of Dobson or the excitement that you are finally here and they are ready to experience it when installed. Everyone is excited!”
A Service Worth Recommending
Mayor Harper has already been spreading the word about Dobson Fiber.
“I absolutely have already recommended it to my friends and neighbors,” he says. “For months I have told them all I have heard about the speeds, the reliability, and the customer service from other towns, employees, and users that already have Dobson. We are all excited about the future.”
He’s especially looking forward to his first big family gathering with fiber internet.
“My experience for the week that I have had this fiber is outstanding. I am looking forward to this weekend in particular because my family is coming in to celebrate Father’s Day with me. I have two daughters with sons-in-law, four grandchildren—and they all have devices. They could never use them at my house before. I have no doubt they will all be so happy with my new fiber internet service!”
